Course Description:

This seminar will cover the rich topic of performance based modeling and analysis, and how it enhances design decision making.  Eric McDaniel and a panel of experts will cover the various aspects of design performance modeling and present case studies on how it has been successfully implemented to elevate building performance.  The panel will discuss how the process of modeling provides additional value to the project and supports commitments to energy conservation, resiliency and AIA 2030.  A demonstration of simple energy modeling will be also covered to illustrate the level of information that can be obtained in early design.

Learning Objectives:

  • Cover how design performance modeling can be used as a design decision making process/tool.
  • Identify how designers can obtain the best feedback from performance based analysis by knowing the right questions to ask.
  • Identify the types of simulation tools available in the marketplace and their inherent strengths and weaknesses.
  • Reinforce how the modeling process can support environmental stewardship and sustainability commitments.

Panel of Speakers:

Eric McDaniel, AIA, Sora Design Group
Amy Jarvis, PE  ZGF Architects
Mitch Dec, PE, Glumac Engineers
Brian Thornton, PE, Thornton Energy
