Mission Statement
We are a mechanism for experienced professionals to connect and exchange knowledge, further supporting the industry shift towards sustainable design. Our goal is to connect experienced green building practitioners (advisors) with those seeking additional expertise (advisees). Once relationships are established we offer support to both parties - we strive to create growth opportunities for green building professionals.

Get Involved:
There are two ways you can find or offer advice with the GAP program.

Happy Hour: Attend our quarterly networking events to discuss green building industry issues and interests while finding an advisor or advisee who you are comfortable partnering with. This allows you to organically find the right match for you, while learning about what others are doing in the industry.

Request an advisor / Be an advisor: Fill out a quick survey to identify your interests, allowing us to suggest possible like-minded advisors or advisees. Simply fill it out, return it to us, and advisees will be sent contact information for two or three advisors. It is the advisee's responsibility to initiate contact with potential advisors. Please refer to our suggested advisory relationship guidelines for further information.

Suggested Guidelines for effective advisory relationships

For the Advisee:
Take the initiative in the relationship for scheduling meetings, for discussion topics, etc.
Ask for advice and welcome constructive criticism.
Be considerate and respectful of your advisor's time.
Listen to what your advisor has to say.
Seriously consider the advice given to you by your advisor, even if your immediate reaction is not positive.
Show appreciation for the time and assistance given to you by your advisor.

If, after a period of time you believe your advisory relationship should change or end, talk about it! If you wish to change advisors please let us know and we will suggest new choices for you to pursue.


For the Advisor:
Invite your advisee to talk, suggest topics to discuss, and ask if you can offer advice.
Respect your advisee's time as much as you respect your own.
Be explicit with your advisee that you are only offering suggestions. Make only positive or neutral comments about your advisee to others.

If, after a period of time you believe your advisory relationship should change or end, talk about it! If you change advisees please let us know and we will add you to the pool of advisors.

We hold regular monthly organizational meetings the second Tuesday of every month at the AIA's Center for Architecture, 403 NW 11th Avenue. Anyone is welcome to join!
